Electric Vehicles, The New Era of Technology.
It's the time to be electrifying. In India, a number of electric vehicles are set to debut in 2021. The carmakers are pulling up their socks in response to the government's announcement of a list of actions to promote electric vehicles in the country. While government rules are gradually favouring electric vehicles, consumers are slowly but surely gravitating toward them. Following Tata's Nexon EV's success and MG's introduction of the ZS EV, several automakers are vying for a piece of the EV pie. With earnings, demand, and other variables in mind, a wave of automakers are developing their own electric vehicles. Is 2021 going to be as electrifying as it appears? It could even be the case.
So, let's look at some of the future electric automobiles coming to India in 2021 and what they have to offer. 1.Volvo XC40 Recharge Expected Price: 60Lakhs INR Expected Launch date: October of 2021 The XC40 Recharge, Volvo India's first all-electric car, will be launched in October 2021. Pre-registration will begin in June. The 150kW dual-motor in the XC40 Recharge will be powered by a 78kWh battery, producing 408PS and 660Nm of torque. It will have an all-wheel drivetrain with a range of 418 kilometres according to the WLTP (World harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure).
The SUV can charge from 0 to 80 percent in 40 minutes and go from 0 to 100 kph in 4.9 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 180kph. Leaving the front grille, the electric SUV is nearly identical to the conventional XC40. Inside, the XC40 Recharge has a revised infotainment system featuring Google Android OS plus built-in Google apps and services, albeit there isn't much of a difference. The XC40 Recharge is likely to cost around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). 2.Tesla Model 3 Expected Price: 60Lakhs INR Expected Launch date: December of 2021 Standard Plus, Long Range, and Performance are the three electric powertrain options for the Model 3 sedan (US-spec).
The Standard Plus has a rear-wheel-drive system, whilst the Long Range and Performance models have a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. Tesla states that the three Model 3 variants have an efficiency of 423km, 568km, and 507km, respectively. The top-spec Performance model sprints from 0 to 97 kilometres per hour in 3.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 261 kilometres per hour. The Standard Plus variant is anticipated to be released in India, with the other two variants coming later. The Model 3 includes a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring online updates, a 14-speaker sound system, along with a 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats, a tinted sunroof, plus two wireless charging points, among other features.
The Tesla Autopilot technology is also included in the electric sedan. It's unclear whether Tesla will include these amenities in the India-spec vehicle. The Model 3 would be imported as a CBU, bringing the projected starting price to Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). 3. Mahindra eKUV100 Expected Price: 8.25 Lakhs INR Expected Launch date: December of 2021 Mahindra has officially released the eKUV100 electric vehicle (EV) in India, with a starting price of Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom). The 15.9kWh liquid-cooled battery of the KUV100 compact SUV-based EV is good for a stated range of 147 kilometres. Additional features include connected car technology, that allows you to select the air conditioning temperature before getting in the car.
This is one of India's most cheap electric vehicles, competing with the Mahindra eVerito or Tata Tigor EV. 4. Audi e-tron Expected Price: 1-1.4Crore INR Expected Launch date: 15th July 2021 The Audi e-tron 50 is the entry-level model, with a smaller 71kWh battery pack capable of producing 312PS and 540Nm of torque. It has a range of 300 kilometres and accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in under seven seconds. It comes with the majority of the bells and whistles, as well as Quattro all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering.
Prices have yet to be revealed, but the e-tron 50 may be available in India soon. In India, Audi unveiled the e-tron SUV for the first time. The e-tron will be the first all-electric Audi in India, and it is expected to arrive by the end of 2019. The e-tron will be identical to those sold elsewhere and will arrive in India via the CBU channel. The price tag is likely to be Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom pan India). Two electric motors power the e-tron, which drive all four wheels. The e-tron, which has a combined output of 360 horsepower, can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 6.6 seconds. It also includes a Boost mode, which boosts power to 408PS and cuts the 0-100kmph time by 0.9 seconds.
The electric motors are driven by a 95-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and the e-tron can go 400 kilometres on a single charge. 5. Tata Tiago EV Expected Price: 6 lakhs INR Expected Launch date: December 2021 At the 2018 Auto Expo, Tata unveiled the Tigor EV for the first time. In November 2018, the business made the Tigor EV available to the government only. Except for a multitude of blue highlights all around the outside, the Tigor EV looks identical to its standard fuel-powered predecessors, aside from an electric charging arrangement and a battery-powered mechanism.
A 30kW electric motor as well as a 216Ah battery pack operate the Tigor EV mechanically. Fast charging is available, and the system has a range of 130 kilometres and a maximum speed of 100 kilometres per hour. It neither comes with projector headlamps nor alloy wheels as standard equipment.
